Our StorySince 7 de Mayo de 2001

The story of Intolerancia Diario

Intolerancia was founded in 1999 as a biweekly magazine aimed at a political audience. Its irreverent journalistic style led the publication to evolve into a daily newspaper two years later.

On Monday, May 7, 2001, newspaper stands across the city of Puebla unveiled a new tabloid-format newspaper with 32 pages and a full-color front page. Its name reflected both an aspiration—intolerance as a form of critical behavior toward power—and the relationship between a newspaper and its readers.

In May 2002, on the newspaper’s first anniversary, the following lines by the General Director appeared on its front page:

«From the outset, we sought to create a newspaper driven more by passion than reason, a space where both slaps and ideas could circulate. Things have gone well for us… our newspaper has turned into an essential arena for controversy, confrontation, and even political farces.» - Enrique Núñez Quiroz

The newspaper has reported on the political life of eleven Puebla gubernatorial administrations, covering the terms of Melquiades Morales Flores, Mario Marín Torres, Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas, Antonio Gali Fayad, Martha Érika Alonso Hidalgo, Jesús Rodríguez Almeida, Guillermo Pacheco Pulido, Miguel Barbosa Huerta, Ana Lucía Hill Mayoral, Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, and, currently on the 24-30 term, Alejandro Armenta Mier.
